Old West Discovery Boxes

The “Old West Discovery Spotology Boxes”

inspire wonder......ignite curiosity......encourage dreams

This exhibit is under development and will soon be available in the Museum. In our Old West exhibit, a child will use their sense of wonder to become a spotologist! An amazing learning experience, a child may act and think as a real scientist does!

  • exploring information
  • organizing data
  • asking questions
  • developing conclusions

Spotology Boxes are designed to stimulate natural curiosity, engage the senses and instill a love of learning! These special discovery boxes are based on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as well as history, early literacy, and the fine arts. They promote the principles of scientific investigation, encourage authentic questions, and the use of higher order thinking and problems solving skills. A child will eagerly explore a variety of theme-based collections with a special adult.

Inside these unique boxes a child may find a variety of items: real objects, artifacts, books, picture cards, specimens, science tools, puzzles, visual aids, maps, posters and much, much more! The Spotology Boxes contain books or printed materials for the children to guide and reinforce their learning, along with information for adults to help facilitate a child’s learning experience as needed. Spotology Themes A child learns best when exposed to multi-faceted, multi-sensory themes and topics. Science, math, history, language and the arts are integrated into each box and specific concepts embedded into each theme. Some themes include: minerals, animals, weather, magnets, colors, shapes, dinosaurs, space, the human body, mining, insects and so on.
