Monsters and Fear

- Read a book about Monsters and talk about the reality of them. go on a monster hunt in your home and check your closets and under the beds for creatures to help alleviate your child’s mind.
- Create a funny monster with your child on a LARGE sheet of paper to hang on your child’s door. It might be the Scare Away Monster who can shoo all the other monsters who are lurking in the area!
- Take a walk in the yard or neighborhood at night time. Look at shadows and the night sky. Talk about safety, but also try to resolve fears about monsters living in the area.
- Create your own nightmare rhyme with your child and let your child say it before going to bed to help alleviate scary nights.
- Make a monster pie or pizza. Use refrigerated dough and let your child experiment with favorite toppings. Make a fruit pizza for breakfast, a cold veggie pizza for lunch or a regular meat/veggie pizza for supper. Create your own family “Monster Pie”. Make one whenever your child feels fearful.
