Joanne Simons Tomasi

Joanne Simons Tomasi, M.Ed. - Vice President

Educator

Joanne Tomasi has been professionally involved in the education field for forty years. Her career spanned all levels of education as she taught, developed, mentored, and administered programs and curricula from early childhood programs to college courses. Ms. Tomasi holds a B.S. degree in Early Childhood and Human Development and an M.Ed in Elementary Education. She also obtained Community College certification, Supervisory and Principal certifications.

Ms. Tomasi’s professional career includes nineteen years in public education as a teacher and administrator kindergarten through eighth grade. She has been awarded two Golden Bell Awards and three Teacher in Excellence Awards from her school district for her role as a mentor teacher. She developed the first new teacher-mentoring program through her district. As director of the ELL Program she developed and implemented a district-wide English Language Learner reading library for each classroom. In addition she piloted the first district wide Sheltered English Immersion program. Ms. Tomasi has served on numerous curriculum development committees at the local and state level. She was instrumental in implementing the first district wide SEI Endorsement training program for her district.

Ms. Tomasi has devoted twenty-one years specifically to the younger groups, birth to kindergarten. She has taught classes at the community college level in Child Development and is a certified instructor for the National Child Development Associates Degree Program. As an Early Childhood Educator, Ms. Tomasi has taught and mentored early childhood teachers and program directors, assisting them in the implementation of meeting and exceeding state and national standards.

A lifelong educator, Joanne believes in the value of play and its importance to the learning process. Time to wonder, daydream and interact in a non-judgmental environment, while experiencing access to the discovery process of trial and error is the best way to learn. Such access is a precious commodity these days. Creating a safe space for young children to explore and learn is her lifelong dream. Joanne is thrilled to be a part of this extraordinary effort that will truly enrich the lives of children and adults in Prescott, Arizona.
