The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc. seeks business, academic, and civic leaders who are passionate about investing in young children. Children's success in reaching their personal potential has everything to do with their experiences in the critical first five years of life. CMA helps children prepare for school ready to learn by providing enriching play-based, discovery enriched experiences, supporting parents and caregivers in developing their parenting skills, and in embracing our diverse community.

The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc provides interactive play experiences to stimulate curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving for children of all ages.

Recruitment Guide

Children’s Museum Alliance, Inc embraces children’s needs, respects childhood, and aims to unite families in the quest to guide children in developing skills to become lifelong learners. The CMA features the spot…a Child’s Museum with enriching hands-on, discovery-based experiences, with quality, unique activities, and with a variety of appropriate materials that will enhance a child’s interest, curiosity, imagination, and learning. Children’s success is directly related to the guidance, environment, and experiences they are provided during the first 8 years of their lives. This identified need is central to exhibit and activity development.

The Children’s Museum Alliance, Inc. seeks business, academic, and civic leaders who are passionate about investing in the future for young children and their families. The CMA desires well-connected individuals who will help build the internal structure to support future growth and stability.

The bylaws of the CMA define the Board as a group of not more than 11 and not less than 3 individuals who faithfully pursue the museum project for the northern Arizona community. The following is a list of potential skills that will allow the CMA to utilize various backgrounds and experiences to further develop the organization and to meet the mission of the organization.

ACADEMIC-EDUCATOR

An educator or researcher who may identify the impact of museum programs and who may utilize strategic partnerships at schools and universities. An expert who will provide information, testimonials, and research about children’s museums and the benefits of museum programs. Someone who can guide the development of the services and programs delivered in the museum with an educational component.

ACCOUNTANT-FINANCIAL

Individual who will oversee financial operations and the annual audit. Person would serve as the treasurer and the organization may desire a separate CPA firm to manage reports.

COMMUNITY BUILDER

Well-connected liaison to potential partners among foundations, service agencies, non-profits, churches, family networks and elected or appointed government officials.

ENTREPENEUR

Business owner with a foundation in the community and who has addressed the challenges of growth and financial concerns. Someone who can help guide the potential earned revenue streams for the museum project.

FUNDRAISER

Individual with experience and interest in creative fundraising efforts and can solicit assistance from others in the community for the worthy cause of a museum entity.

LEGAL

Attorney who can oversee compliance with organizational standards and regulations and who can advise on employment law, intellectual property, contracts, landlord-lease, and other legal matters that arise

MEDICAL-HEALTH (PEDIATRIC)

Expert in a pediatric medical related field who understands issues of child health, nutrition and care. Someone who works in the community and shares a desire to further family unity and address issues of childhood health.

MUSEUM

Individual knowledgeable about museum structure and delivery of services.

NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION/COMMUNITY SERVICE ORGANIZATION

Person with background and experience is working for or running a non-profit organization, dealing with the community factors, financial obligations, child-family programs and employees.

PR/MARKETING

Professional who can support the museum’s branding and marketing efforts and who can develop publicity in print and through other media sources.

Board Roles-Job Description

Authority and Responsibility

The Board of Directors shall be the governing authority of the Children’s Museum Alliance, Inc., a non-profit organization. As a member of the Board, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: cultural facilities, property development, legal, finance, marketing/promotion, fundraising, education.


Term:


Directors are elected by the Board at a quarterly meeting. Directors serve for a two-year term.


Requirements:

  • Dedication to the mission and work of the organization
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: cultural facilities, property development, legal, finance, marketing/promotion, fundraising.
  • Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate; attendance at Board meetings, one annual meeting, and periodic committee conference calls or meetings.
  • Commitment of minimum of estimated time of five to ten hours per month, (includes Board preparation, meeting and committee meeting time).
  • Informed on the programs and services provided by The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc and publicly support them. Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board.
  • Support The Children’s Museum Alliance, Inc and other Board members by respecting and adhering to Board Procedures and Policies.
  • Lead by example with The Children’s Museum Alliance, Inc. fundraising efforts. Make an annual monetary contribution that is your most significant charitable giving while on the Board.

Major Duties:

  • Governing The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc in accordance with the organization’s bylaws.
  • Promote The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc mission and help grow the audience and membership through community networking.
  • Commit to boosting attendance of yearly fundraising events and other special events.
  • Cultivate and/or initiate relationships with prospective donors and supporters.
  • Establish overall strategic direction, long and short term goals, annual objectives and priorities for The Children's Museum Alliance, Inc.
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to organizational values.
  • Be aware of and disclose any personal and/or professional conflict of interest./li>
